How is bamboo fabric made?

Main characteristics of bamboo

Bamboo is easy to grow

Bamboo matures quickly, growing up to 80cm a day, and it can grow in areas that are usually not suitable for other crops.

Environmental impact

Bamboo grows rapidly, needs very little water, fertilizer or pesticides, and sequesters a large amount of carbon dioxide, absorbing five times more carbon dioxide and 35% more oxygen than similar plants.

Like other cellulose-based clothing materials, bamboo fibre is biodegradable in soil by micro organisms and sunlight. Having reached the end of its useful life, clothing made from bamboo is almost 100% compostable and disposable in an organic and environmentally friendly manner.

Bamboo is naturally organic

Bamboo doesn’t require pesticides, fertilizers or irrigation to enhance its growth – instead it grows like a weed and can grow up to 80cm per day.

Bamboo can tolerate extreme conditions

Not only can bamboo tolerate periods of flooding as well as drought, it was also the first plant to re-green
after the atomic bombing in Japan in 1945.

Key facts about Bamboo

Bamboo has a stronger structure than steel and is also used in the construction industry. This makes bamboo clothing extremely durable and guarantees clothing to look the same even years later.

Although a hardwood plant may come to mind when you think of bamboo, bamboo fabric is luxuriously soft and silky. The feel is often likened to cashmere.

Coming from a purer source and not being exposed to as many chemicals which are more likely to cause allergic sensitivities, bamboo fabrics are well-known for being hypoallergenic.

Moisture Absorbent

Bamboo fiber is highly absorbent, much more so and faster drying than cotton. In warm, humid weather, bamboo clothing doesn’t stick to the skin. It keeps you drier, cooler and more comfortable.

Thermal Regulating

Keeping the skin cool and dry when it’s hot and protected and
warm when it’s cold.

On an average, bamboo is 3 degress cooler than cotton. Bamboo are considered naturally more breathable than cotton. It has the ability to absorb moisture extremely well and does to adhere to the human body keeping skin dry.

Antibacterial Properties

The antibacterial properties of bamboo are the most profound reason that bamboo grows so rapidly in nature. Because bamboo has an inherit natural barricade against bacteria. In an independent study by The Japan Textile Inspection Association, results proved that bamboo fabric could eliminate over 70% of introduced bacteria during a 24-hour period. And that result was after an incredible 50 industrial wash cycles. Bamboo material will also combat yeast, mould and fungus cultivation.
